I am a system and interface architect, presently residing in Arlington, VA, and working full time with the web since 1996. I am currently a Senior Technical Consultant at Blackstone Technology Group, primarily doing custom application design and development, SOA Integration, and COTS implementation and customization. Senior Technical Consultant for several EPA and DHS projects, performing custom Java web application development, requirements analysis, and TIBCO development.

Project experience:

  • DHS OCIO ESDO: Converted Appian Portal-based Java Struts web application (FYHSP - a fiscal budget planning application) to work with Spring Security and a centralized User Authentication system.
  • DHS USCIS SLOPE RBTP: Implemented TIBCO iProcess Business Suite to construct a web application for Immigration Greencard replacement using SOA and an ESB talking to mainframe data systems. Process time of cases predicted to move from 18 hours to 2 minutes. In charge of user interface architecture and 508 accessibility design - adapted beta TIBCO 508 product (iPWL) to USCIS’ needs. Responsible for writing or reviewing requirements documents (SRD and RTM), design documents (SDD), test plans (DTP), and deployment guides (VDD) as part of the ITLM process deliverables.
  • EPA EDSP: Custom web application development including Hibernate, Spring, DWR, and Dojo to make a dynamic site using AJAX to improve a complex user interface.
  • EPA Efficacy Tracking: Performed requirements gathering and analysis on workflow driven custom web application that will use notification and data presentation to improve processing efficiency.

System Architect for various PBGC (Pension Benefits Guarantee Corporation), USAID (US Agency for International Development), Arlington County (VA), and United States Air Force projects.

Project experience:

  • Infrastructure Services Group: Ongoing work includes architectural decisions about client infrastructures, implementation of infrastructure pieces such as centralized logging and high availability web servers, and development and deployment of Microsoft Sharepoint collaboration environment.
  • Headquarters Air Force COOP: Worked on implementation of Plumtree Portal, UI redesign on custom personnel locator, deployment of Tandberg video teleconferencing systems, documentation for security accreditation, and application training of end users.
  • Arlington County: Designed and implemented several different applications and site designs for the county's public website in Percussion Rhythmyx. Numerous projects ranged from a revamped Communications Department to a site-wide rearchitecture involving managed navigation and a flexible templating system.
  • USAID COOP: Architected and implemented a continuity of operations system for USAID's public website that provided load balancing and failover for redundancy involving Solaris on Sun X2100s, heartbeatd, and Apache 2.2.x mod_proxy_balancer on the front end and Apache, Ultraseek, and Cold Fusion/MySQL on the back end.
  • PBGC WCMS: For PBGC's public internet site, developed content types and auto indexes (summary-style content aggregators) in Percussion Rhythmyx, implemented the Ultraseek search engine and implemented Apache 2 optimization and proxying.
  • PBGC Portal: Lead the implementation and configuration of Plumtree Portal Suite 5.0 for PBGC's intranet redesign, as well as the development of custom content for the portal using .Net and J2EE.
  • PBGC MyPAA and MyPBA: Created system architecture of two transactional websites that each served one half of PBGC's customers - plan practitioners filing premiums and making e-payments as well as plan participants updating records and signing up for direct deposit. This architecture included analysis and design with Rational ReqPro, XDE, and SoDA.

  • Budget Cost System (BUCS): Led conversion of Oracle Forms application into web based application, making extensive use of ASP, PL/SQL stored procedures, and complex Crystal Reports.

Responsible for leading design activities, making technology recommendations, providing technical vision on a project, participating in effective project scope and estimates, developing quality application code, and technically mentoring engineers.

Project experience:

  • DuPont and Solae: Produced detailed requirements documentation and implemented a content management system for a major corporate website and a brand awareness website. Analyzed data requirements and created DTD's for use in Interwoven TeamSite. Developed capture and presentation templates, including database driven index pages using Interwoven DataDeploy. Designed and implemented JSPs, servlets, EJBs, and java class files for iPlanet Application Server. Trained other engineers in TeamSite.
  • Eastman Chemical: Analyzed data requirements and implemented Eprise Participant Server to build an award winning corporate website and chemical portal. Designed and developed ASP, capture/presentation pagestyles, and deployment methodology. Trained other engineers in Participant Server.
  • ChooseEnergy.com: Designed and developed an Oracle database and an ASP and Java web interface for an energy industry service provider, including a database schema that could handle the rate schedule for every energy utility in the country.
  • Cybergistics: Designed and developed a multiple tier, Java with JMS based enterprise system to tie together logistics and shipping operations. This brought together 4 companies' disparate systems running AS/400 and DB2 databases with MQ Series, which in turn served 80 different retail and direct marketing businesses.

ThunderHouse
September 1997 - December 1998
Cambridge, MA

Responsible for design and development of ASP, PERL, and ServerSide JavaScript websites connected to Informix and SQL Server databases.

Project experience:

  • AT&T: Developed a combination internet/intranet/extranet to link executives, publishers, association managers and association members in a benefits network. This database driven site used content editors to provide dynamic personalized content and an order/authorization system for accompanying print collateral material.
  • AT&T: Built a service planner that gave real time feedback based on customers needs and business models. This planner used Informix and Server Side JavaScript to store customer responses in a database and created more successful lead generation and a detailed survey history.
  • ThunderHouse: Programmed a one-to-one holiday self-promotion site that made use of a combination of Java and Perl. This site consisted of a gift ordering system with authentication as well as an database-driven interactive fruitcake.
  • ThunderHouse: Produced an in-house media tracking tool that searched various content sites and cataloged their advertisements in a database. This banner clipper allowed fine-tuned tracking of competitors' media campaigns and verification of clients media campaigns.
  • Pandesic: Developed a dynamic ASP web site that incorporated personalization with a random but non-repeating experience with cookies and server variables.
